新年快樂!| Happy New Year

Prosperous Year of the White (Metal) Tiger to everyone!
Scene at Ongpin Street in Chinatown, Binondo, Manila on Chinese New Year.
The Chinese New Year was well celebrated at Chinatown, where the traditional Lion and Dragon dances were done everywhere in the vicinity. Foreigners and locals alike held their cameras ready to take photos of the festive event.

The restaurants were jam-packed with family, people, coming all over the country and overseas to witness and taste the different flair or fusion of cultures enjoyed the the Chinoys.

The Mr. Ube Gerry Chua hosted an eating contest, to spice up the event, where everyone was amused of the contest's appetite.
Binondo, a mixture of old and new, but culture will forever be true.

GFAPY Speed Dating on a Chinese New Year

Well, actually it was not on a Chinese New Year, it is a week before Chinese New Year, but it's good thing that it was moved, so that the new matches that the speed dating made will have time to celebrate Valentine's day, right?
GFAPY President Peterson Co, giving his opening remarks and greeting everyone.
GFAPY VP Leo Natividad, organizer of the event, giving his thank yous and welcomes everyone.
Here's how the successful event looked like--- jam-packed! Everybody looked that they enjoyed the company, not just on their designated table, but in other tables as well.

Must See Movie | Confucius 孔子

Confucius starring Chow Yun-fat and Zhou Xun and directed by Hu Mei.

It was released in Asia last January 18, 2010, in Guangzhou, China. The 22 million yuan (US $3,222,121.43) government-backed movie was created to celebrate the Chinese sage's 2,560th anniversary. credit: gma.tv

It is a glimpse to the sage's way of thinking and a glimpse of how the society he lived in was.

子貢問曰:“有一言而可以終身行之者乎”?子曰:“其恕乎!己所不欲、勿施於人。”
Zi gong (a disciple of Confucius) asked: "Is there any one word that could guide a person throughout life?"
The Master replied: "How about 'shu' [reciprocity]: never impose on others what you would not choose for yourself?"

Good Reads | Chinese Cinderella

Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah 馬嚴君玲, is a short autobiographical novel about an unwanted daughter. It is a revised version of her first book, Falling Leaves. I think it is a typical story of Chinese daughters in a male driven Chinese society/family, what made it worse for Adeline was her mother's death because of her birth. It gives you a complete picture of Chinese culture in that period of time (you can compare what changed from then to now) and narrates triumphs of being the best daughter and accepting yourself.
"You may be right in believing that if you study hard, one day you might become fluent in English; but you will still look Chinese and when people meet you, they'll see a Chinese girl no matter how well you speak English. You'll always be expected to know Chinese, and if you don't, I'm afraid they will not respect you as much." -Grandfather Ye Ye
